About

I’ve loved storytelling since I joined my first Power of the Pen competition in 7th grade. Finding joy in writing has never been difficult for me but I forgot that for a big chunk of my life. Somewhere along the way I became tangled in a career, then busy raising kids. While I was constantly writing for my jobs in nonprofits and higher education, the personal storytelling I used to love began to disappear. I didn’t realize how dead the creative spark in my life had become until I saw a colleague, now a very dear friend, commit to her own writing after work hours. She was a professional boss lady by day but by night she became the artist she truly is at heart and I thought – me too.

So in November of 2022 I took on the National Novel Writing Month (NanoWriMo) Challenge and decided to write a novel. I surprised myself with my ability to stick to such a daunting task. On the confidence that built I thought, if I can write a novel then surely I can edit one. Once I’d completed that task I thought, if I can edit a novel then surely I can design a book cover. Then, with my fresh cover in front of me I thought, if I can design a book cover then surely I can publish this book myself. And that’s how in 2023 I ended up publishing my first book, Fat Phobia

I discovered that I love to write in a variety of genres including: horror, mystery, speculative, science, and literary fiction. Many of my stories attempt to explore topics like injustice, rape culture, fat culture, and political power. I like to think about the things that I’m afraid of and manifest them in new, unexplored ways.

This rediscovered love of writing quickly found its mate in the form of reading. Before 2022 I was lucky if I read one or two books in a year and while I’m still a slower reader than many I’ve bumped that up to about 25 and growing. This grew into a love of supporting, learning from, and growing with other writers. I joined the Ohio Writers’ Association, of which I am now an active board member, made many writer friends, attended conferences and classes, and helped build an anthology of incredible works by local authors. I’m now passionate about supporting and celebrating local and self-published authors by offering my editing services, promoting their work, and reading advanced copies/providing feedback on new projects.

Please reach out to me if you’re interested in receiving a review on an advanced reader copy of your book, especially if you’re a local/self-published author. I’m always looking for new social media collaborations, writer events, and new friends to discuss books with!
